Special Olympics Canada Winter Games 2024 Inspire Calgary and the Nation

March 5, 2024

Third Academy was thrilled that Calgary, Alberta was host to Canada’s Special Olympics Winter Games held February 27 through March 2, 2024. The Special Olympics brings athletes with intellectual disabilities together to participate in competitive sports. This year over 900 athletes took part in events included Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Curling, Floor Hockey, Figure Skating, Snowshoeing, and Speed Skating. These athletes are inspirational to all as they demonstrate that through sport they can overcome their disabilities and succeed at the very highest level.

We give a special nod to Canada’s own Susan Wang from Vancouver. As a Special Olympics competitor for the past 12 years, she participates in alpine skiing, swimming, floor hockey, and track and field. Ms. Wang has been appointed as one of the ten Sargent Shriver Global Messengers. These athlete leaders serve as spokespersons for the Special Olympics movement, advocating for all persons with intellectual disabilities.

Third Academy has a proven track record in assisting families respond to challenges, including intellectual disabilities, for 29 years. Just as the Special Olympics slogan suggests, “together we can truly be empowered, believe, and soar high!”
