Syreeta brings over a decade of international teaching experience to her role as a Lead Teacher at Third Academy. Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, she holds a Bachelor of Education and has taught in South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and now Canada. Syreeta has worked in IB schools, where she developed a strong passion for inquiry-based learning and encouraging students to learn through investigation, questioning, and curiosity. Her training and experience with Reggio Emilia-inspired approaches have further shaped her belief that children are naturally curious learners who should be given opportunities to explore, discover, and take an active role in their learning. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia concept of the “Hundred Languages of Children,” she values the many different ways children communicate, create, think, and make sense of the world around them.

At the heart of Syreeta’s teaching philosophy is the belief that education is about much more than academics. She cares deeply about the whole child and believes that children need to feel safe, understood, and valued before meaningful learning can take place. Building strong relationships with her students and creating a classroom where they feel comfortable being themselves is just as important to her as their academic growth. Her international teaching journey has given her the opportunity to work with children from many different cultures, backgrounds, and abilities, while also teaching her to keep growing as an educator. She strongly believes in Nelson Mandela’s words, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” and hopes to help her students grow into confident, kind, and curious individuals who believe in themselves and what they are capable of.

Outside of the classroom, Syreeta is a wife and proud mom to Dylan and Reeya. Family is an important part of her life, and she loves spending time with them, cooking, travelling, exploring new places, and making new memories together. Having recently moved to Calgary, she and her family are enjoying discovering their new home and all that Canada has to offer.
