Kimberly Garner
Teacher
Kimberly graduated from the University of Alberta in 1993 with a Bachelor of Education, majoring in Social Studies and minoring in English. She has taught English for over 20 years and was a Division English Head for Junior High English and an English Department Head in her previous school division.

Kimberly is also a certified Dotb Mindfulness teacher, a certified Trauma-Informed Practitioner (both Educational and Clinical), a Master Usui Reiki practitioner, and a certified Death Doula. She has shared this knowledge by presenting at Teacher Conventions on both Trauma-Informed Schools and The Polyvagal Theory. In her spare time, Kimberly runs meditations and retreats, specializing in shamanic journeys, inner child work, and emotional processing.

Kimberly’s passion for trauma-informed care led her to Third Academy in August 2023. She currently is Lead Teacher in the Junior High 2 classroom and also teaches English and Social Studies for students in the High School Knowledge and Employability program. She is also currently the Literacy Lead for Third Academy. Her greatest joy is in working with special needs students and students with trauma. Kimberly’s belief is compassion and care first, learning second.

She is married to her husband Mark of nearly 20 years, has a 31 year old son, Cayden, a 16 year old son, Gage, and a 14 year old daughter, Mikerline, who was adopted from Haiti in 2014. Their family also includes William, their Golden Retriever, Raphaelle, their ragdoll/Himalayan cat, and Angus, their Crested Gecko.
