Shawn Coupland
Teacher
As an elementary teacher with Third Schools, Shawn Coupland is proud to be teaching at the Third Academy campus where he strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for his students. His extensive educational background includes a Master’s of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education, a Bachelor of Theology, and a Diploma in Physical Education. Reflecting his lifelong love of learning and exploration, he also earned a Commercial Pilot License earlier in life.
Shawn is passionate about fostering foundational skills through engaging experiences that support each student’s unique strengths. His approach is rooted in patience, structure, and a deep respect for the diverse backgrounds of his students. He often reminds them, “I’m not smarter than you—I’ve just been around longer than you,” emphasizing his belief that learning is a lifelong journey they take together.
Outside of the classroom, Shawn enjoys coaching basketball and refereeing volleyball. He is proud of his Métis heritage and is currently learning Northern Michif, the French-Cree language his mother grew up with, as he reconnects with his cultural roots. A dedicated husband and father to two daughters and a son-in-law, he looks forward to a year filled with curiosity, growth, and joyful learning.
