Dave Holland
Instructional Assistant/Bus Driver
Dave graduated from McMaster University with an Honours degree in Kinesiology, specializing in Sport Psychology and Sport and Small Group Dynamics. He also completed a second Honours degree in Urban Geography, reflecting his broad academic interests and curiosity about the physical and social dynamics of the world around him.
After university, he began his professional journey as a supply teacher with the Hamilton and District Board of Education. This role offered a valuable introduction to working with youth in diverse classroom settings and deepened his interest in supporting student development. Looking to make a broader impact, he moved into social services, first supporting children in foster care with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton. His passion for community work later took him west, where he worked with the Calgary SCOPE Society and Independent Counselling Enterprises in Calgary, helping individuals and families navigate complex challenges with compassion and care.
Outside of work, Dave has always been drawn to adventure and the outdoors. A certified snowboard instructor, he spent many winters teaching at Lake Louise, sharing his love of the sport with beginners and seasoned riders alike. During the warmer months, he worked as a river guide and backcountry trip leader, running rivers across Alberta and British Columbia for over 15 years. These experiences reinforced his belief in the importance of resilience, teamwork, and connection to nature.
Dave continues to bring his diverse background and positive energy to every new opportunity and relishes the time he spends most in Third Academy where he works with adolescents in grades 8 and 9. He also drives a scheduled Third Academy school bus run.
When he’s not working, he spends almost all of his quality time with his wife, their two daughters, and their two pups.
