Jim Grant
Bus Driver
Originally from Toronto, Jim moved to Calgary with his family in 1964 and has maintained his roots in the city for over six decades. Before entering the field of student transportation, James enjoyed a distinguished career in engineering that required a truly global perspective. After earning his Chemical/Mechanical Engineering Diploma from SAIT, he spent years as a Lubrication Engineer with BP/Castrol. His specialized expertise as a Root Cause Analysis expert eventually turned him into a world traveler, taking him across the globe to solve complex technical challenges.
After concluding his engineering career, Jim transitioned into the role of a school bus driver. He was already an experienced driver when he eventually joined the Third Academy family after discovering our posting on Indeed. Today, he brings that same high-level professional discipline and technical precision to our fleet. In his current role, his primary focus remains the absolute safety of every child on his route, ensuring they have a reliable and secure journey to and from school every day.
Jim’s philosophy on student success is deeply compassionate; he believes that when supporting students with diverse learning needs, “love comes first.” By building a foundation of care and kindness, he ensures his bus is a positive, welcoming environment for every student. When he isn't on the road, James stays busy with his passions for golf and building intricate wood models. At home, he enjoys spending time with his family and his beloved Shitzu/Bichon, Charlie.
