Mr Sunil Mattu LL.B. (Hons) Law, B.Ed.

Third Academy is at the heart of Sunil’s work and passion. As a lifelong learner himself, he understands the dynamics and intricacies of education and works tirelessly to ensure all stakeholders, families and students receive the best programs and opportunities possible. In his role as Executive Director, Sunil works closely with the Leadership Team (Rehana Mattu, Joe Smith, Bruce Freeman, Sabu Alexander, and Zeljko Puric), to provide proactive support and leadership to the Third Academy staff, students, and parents.

“Third Academy is far more than just a school. It is a community where children are provided with personalized learning and the compassion and instruction they need to heal and grow in their studies. Every child is unique and as such so too is when, where and how they develop and grow. It is inspiring to see our students’ hard work and progress on a daily basis,” explains Sunil.

Sunil completed his IB program at Atlantic College before attending the London School of Economics and the University of Calgary‘s Master of Teaching program. As an original member of the founding staff, Sunil has been helping to build the dream of The Third Academy since 1997. Throughout the years he has held various different positions within the organization. The 2019-2019 school year marks his ninth year as Executive Director.

Dr. S. Lal Mattu, Third Academy’s founder and Ambassador-at-Large, is proud that his son is following in his footsteps and providing access to quality educational programming to all Calgarians. Under Sunil’s guidance, Third Academy has established the Willow Home Education division that serves the needs of Alberta families who choose to home educate using a traditional approach.
