University of Calgary Research Study for Children Aged 8-12

Third Academy families may be interested in participating in the following University of Calgary research project:

Looking for something to do this summer?

Participate in research at the University of Calgary!

We are looking for children aged 8-12 years of age – with ADHD and without ADHD – to participate in our research!  We are interested in looking at the relationship between cognitive development, perspective taking, emotions, thinking, and sleep of children!

If you are interested in participating this project, we will determine your eligibility with a brief pre-screening questionnaire (over the phone).  After that is completed, you and your son/daughter will visit the University of Calgary for one session of 2-3 hours. Your child will work one-on-one with a researcher to complete puzzle-based and problem-solving activities as well as some questionnaires. While the researcher is working with your child, you will be asked to complete questionnaires that ask about your family and your child’s history, as well as those that ask about your child’s behaviour.

It is expected that the information collected in this study will provide us with a better understanding of how emotions, social skills, thinking, and sleep are related in children with ADHD. An understanding of the relationship between each of these abilities can help in designing effective interventions that increase social relations and school engagement.

Participation in this study is completely voluntary and confidential. In exchange for your participation, your family will receive a $25 gift card as an acknowledgement of your time… and your child can select a prize! This study has been approved by the University of Calgary Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board.
