Third Academy School Tour Process
Third Academy’s school tour process helps both you and the school determine if we are a good fit for your child. The best way to do this is to have you and your child visit the school and experience the amazing things that happen every school day at Third Academy. We don’t hold open houses but rather offer individualized tours to give your family an opportunity to see our teachers, students, and support staff in action. Below we detail what to expect.
When you call the school (403-288-5335), Rene Rideout, our Administrative Assistant, will do her best to answer any questions you may have and book your school tour.
The initial tour will be conducted by our founder, Dr. S. Lal Mattu, who will meet with the parent(s) or guardian(s) during school hours. The tour usually lasts about an hour and its purpose is for us to develop an understanding of the prospective student’s needs and to provide an opportunity for the parent(s) or guardian(s) to learn about our approach and see our classrooms, teachers, and students in action. An enrollment package will be provided at the end of the tour.
Please note: it’s helpful for families to bring as much documentation with them to the tour as they can (i.e. psycho-educational assessments, IPPs, and report cards).
If the parent(s) or guardian(s) feel Third Academy might be a good fit for their child, a second meeting will be scheduled. We will ask you bring your application form and any other required documentation to this meeting. Unlike many other specialty schools, Third Academy does not charge an application fee.
The second meeting will be held with Sunil Mattu, Third Academy’s Executive Director. The prospective student is required to attend the second school tour. The focus of this meeting is to determine if our program can assist the child. First, a question and answer session will take place. Next, the student, along with parent(s) and guardian(s), will take a tour of the school. This way the prospective student can see our teachers, students, classrooms, and other facilities. Finally, Mr. Mattu will meet with the parent(s) or guardian(s) to determine whether enrollment of the student should take place.
We understand that finances are a concern for many families and we want to assure you that we’re here to help. In our initial meeting, we talk about fees and provide our fee schedule in the application package. We do offer substantial bursaries and have access to sources such as the Prosser Charitable Foundation. These resources allows us to ensure that family finances are not a barrier to student registration. If it is determined that the parent(s) or guardian(s) are unable to pay full fees, a bursary meeting will be scheduled with Sunil Mattu. Bursary applicants are asked to bring documents showing their income and expenditures. The outcome of the bursary meeting is to create a fee schedule that the family can afford.
We recognize that looking for a new school for your child can be a daunting process. Rest assured that we will do everything we can to ensure it runs smoothly. We look forward to meeting with each of you and can’t wait for you to discover special needs education, your child’s way at Third Academy!
